Guerrilla marketing is an advertising strategy in which low-cost unconventional methods (graffiti, sticker bombing, flash mobs) are used to promote a product or an idea. Not just for fanzines and indie music, this type of promotion is now being used by yearbook staffs.

An “Internet meme” is a concept that spreads rapidly from person to person via the Internet, usually in a humorous way, largely through internet-based email, blogs, social networking sites, instant messaging, etc. One of this blogger’s personal iMemes is the Ryan Gosling phenomenon. I mean, if The Gos can’t sell you more books, what can?
Memes work well on the back of bathroom stalls, text messages and Twitter. Start a few and see how much interest it generates in your yearbook sale. It’s free, so what do you have to lose?
Play up Pop Culture
Humor is an excellent tool–especially when the joke is not on you. From Miley to Lindsay, there are plenty of jokes at your disposal.
Make use of your yearbook-savvy design skills to make some homemade bookmarks featuring yearbook photos. Want to keep some mystery? Mark out the faces of the people in the photos and post to Instagram.
Wear your heart on your sleeve–or your yearbook pride on your shirt. Letting people know you’re on yearbook while you’re snapping their photos will send them a message: “Hey, you’re gonna be in the yearbook!” If they’re in it, they will buy it.
Create a commercial and play it during school announcements. Have access to your school’s video broadcast system? Have a little fun like this staff did:
Go Old School
Make your own posters and put them up around school. Make them eye-catching and original so that they can’t go unnoticed.
Lastly, don’t forget to use social media to promote your yearbook sale and create urgency.
